Yamada Asaemon Kichiji

Sagiri was inspired to become an executioner after witnessing her father's skills. However, like his clan members, Kichiji believed that women in the Yamada Clan were not worthy of wielding a sword and disapproved of Sagiri's pursuit. Sagiri remembers the times her father looked down on her as she continued her training.

Sagiri first encountered Gabimaru as an inspector but later revealed her true identity as a Yamada Asaemon who has come to invite him to join the shogun's mission to acquire the Elixir of Life if he wanted to be with his wife. Initially, Sagiri viewed Gabimaru as nothing but a common convicted criminal no different than any other she has come across in her line of work, but after witnessing his ability of bearing the weight of the lives he takes, Sagiri used him as a source of inspiration to try to conqueror her fear of executing her victims.

Sagiri helps Gabimaru find his resolve.

Upon taking on the task of being his monitor on the mission, Sagiri made it clear to Gabimaru about her role as his monitor and to not mistake her for an ally. Gabimaru remained neutral to the fact that he was a criminal in her eyes and had to keep watch over him as long it did not hinder him trying to find the Elixir of Life. However, upon learning the possibility that Iwagakure might be involve in the mission by Kishō, Gabimaru tried to kill Sagiri to not be weighed down. Although she knew that his actions gave her the right to execute him as she defended herself, Sagiri became confused as to why she was holding back and why she could not see Gabimaru as an enemy. After being bested, Sagiri saw how dangerous Gabimaru was as the rumors made him out to be and was prepared to be killed by the ninja. However, after noticing him hesitate to bring his blade down and going into despair that he won't have the privilege of returning to his wife as long as he felt sentimental, Sagiri realized that Gabimaru has been grieving for all the lives he has taken and is not truly heartless. She also came to the realization that her time watching him allowed her to confront her own emotions. Having seen him in a new light, Sagiri opened up to Gabimaru and tells him that having emotions will make him strong and vows to accompany him on his mission if he chooses to face them while redeeming himself. Though she now developed a desire to see him turn his life back around, Sagiri stated that their relationship as criminal and executioner has not changed but told him that as of that moment "he was no longer the man he once was."

As they continued on their travels, Sagiri started to take Gabimaru's safety into consideration as she rushed to his side after being injured by a Sōshin and was grateful to him for saving her from a Sōshin attack. After allying with Yuzuriha, Senta, and Genji, the tension between her and Gabimaru was shown to have slightly mellowed as Sagiri became able to engage in a casual conversation with him. They also started to gain trust in each other as both Sagiri and Gabimaru ask for each others support to fight Rokurōta and showed considerable teamwork. Sagiri was also courteous enough to give him a proper bath even though she admitted that it was not her duty as his monitor.

After Gabimaru separated from her to travel to Hōrai, Sagiri felt obligated to go look for him since it was her job to stay by his side at all times, however, despite the fact that a Yamada Asaemon was not responsible for the safety of their assigned criminal while on the mission, Sagiri noticed how for some reason she could not bring herself to feel that way. Upon meeting Mu Dan and learning from him that the Elixir of Life she and the others were looking for did not exist, Sagiri panicked for Gabimaru's situation of not being able to gain the sought off pardon. After Mu Dan's defeat, Sagiri had a conversation with Senta and admitted that she had come to admire Gabimaru the same way he had come to admire Yuzuriha despite them being Asaemons. With the news of the elixir not existing setting in, Sagiri once again goes into a state of panic after she learns from Yuzuriha that there is a possibility that Gabimaru's wife may not exist. After she is approached by Shion on why she felt concern for Gabimaru, Sagiri denies the fact that what she was feeling not love (after the blind Asaemon almost came to the conclusion) but rather feelings of pity for Gabimaru's terrible life in Iwagakure and shed tears for him if Yuzuriha's theory ended up being true. Despite her place as a Asaemon, Sagiri admitted that she hopes that Gabimaru will be reunited with his wife.
