Jigokuraku Wiki

Tokugawa Nariyoshi ( () () (なり) (よし) ) is the eleventh shogun of Japan. After learning about the existence of the Elixir of Life, Tokugawa gave the order to send a group of criminals sentenced to death to go to retrieve the elixir and give it to him, with the reward of a pardon for all their crimes.

Appearance[]

Tokugawa Nariyoshi is a rather stocky man who is slightly bald, wears a topknot, a small moustache and goatee, and has closed eyes. His main attire consists of wearing fashionable pattern kimonos.

Personality[]

The shogun is characterized as an extremely greedy and irrational individual. Having discovered that the legendary Elixir of Life existed on an mystical island, the shogun obsessively sent out teams in order to acquire it, in spite of the many failures, until he came to the decision to send out a group of death row criminals in hoping that results will be made. Upon gathering the recruited criminals, the shogun requested that they all engage in a massacre as a way to find the ones who were the most qualified, only to become unaware that this would only result in badly injured participants as noted by Aoki. On top of his greedy demeanor, the shogun is also rather impatient as he could not wait any longer for the vanguard party to retrieve the elixir after only two days had passed since their departure and decided to send out another team to speed up the progress, while also not considering that the people he hired had their own agenda depending on the numbers his employer dispatched. The shogun is also oblivious towards the well-being of others or anything that could be seen as gruesome or unnatural. He was not spooked at the slightest when only a single bloomed man came back from each expedition team he sent was lost and found enjoyment in watching the gathered death row criminals massacre each other. During the execution of all the family members from the Silver Serpent Group by Yamada Asaemon Shugen, the shogun happily watched as a spectator and ended up rewarding the Asaemon with a famed blade and clothing for his service. Though the shogun claimed that he had only chosen people who had exceptional skill for the second landing party, Isuzu knew that this was false and the truth was that the members were rather pawns for the shogun's amusement since she knew that if success were to be made on the mission then the shogun would have sent Shugen from the very beginning.
