Special Drawn Manga: Special Chapter (特別描き下ろし漫画 特別編 Tokubetsu Kaki Oroshi Manga Tokubetsu-hen?) is a special manga-omake included in Kaitai Shinsho.
Summary[]
During a night in Iwagakure, Gabimaru's father tells to his nameless, infant son that due to the cruel ways of Iwagakure the names of the people in the village are looked at as being meaningless and is prepared to give him a name that would be ominous as a potential shinobi in his future. Gabimaru's mother stops him from saying anything further, since she wanted to spare her baby some love, and points towards the new moon as their answer, believing that the single letter "Saku" (朔) would be a perfect name for their son since it would not make him stand out as a shinobi who only comes out at night and that it will offer him no love.
During a night in Kotaku, Sagiri, who is partially awake from her monitoring duties, hears Gabimaru's past story about how he got his birth name from his parents. Despite revealing his real name, Gabimaru tells Sagiri that he was okay if she continued to call him "Gabimaru", which Sagiri agreed to since she found that she would not get used to calling him by such a name. After listening to him briefly state how he felt that his true name was too ominous to be spoken, Sagiri provides him with an explanation on how when swords are made they are a given a name by the person who crafted it and how there are some swords with nice sounding names but are either never drawn or cursed. She then explains that although his true name contains more than one meaning behind it, it is the way he chooses to live his life that will determine the real meaning behind the name he chooses to live by, as well as the person who speaks of it.
In the present, Gabimaru hears Yui calling out to him as "San" and replies that he has not gotten used to her calling him this. Yui then tells him that she likes calling him by this name since to her it meant the "beginning". Having heard this, Gabimaru looks up to the sky and replies that he was okay with the name she chooses to call him by.
