Chapter 114 of the Jigokuraku manga.
Summary[]
While watching over the humans, Mei asks Jofuku why he decided to bring people to the island. Jofuku tells Mei that since Tao goes beyond human understanding she should not concern herself with their matters. After Rien finishes engaging in Bōchū Jutsu with Jofuku, Mei is told by her to not feel ashamed by the practice and to not have any doubts. She then recalls her punishment for defying Rien and on how she felt powerless to do anything in the past. After recalling Gui Fa's past question as to why she returned to Hōrai, Mei remembers her resolve to no longer run away from her problems. In the present, Mei blows away the wreckage and gives everyone a clear path to get onboard the ship. Sagiri prepares herself to yell out to Mei in concern but is interrupted by Gabimaru, who was also prepared to yell out to Mei, telling her that she is running the risk of dying if she continues to stay in her Kishikai and will not be able to have the normal life she wanted. Mei then returns to normal, hugs both Sagiri and Gabimaru, and thanks both of them for everything they have done for her and have them transported to the ship, revealing that their final moments with her was an illusion. As the ship sails off, Sagiri cries out to Mei as she withers away. In her last moments, Mei apologizes to everyone for not being to sail off with them, to her father, to her family, and to Rien for not realizing their feelings after they banished her and how she could not stop them. The scene then cuts to Gantetsusai onboard Rien's burning ship.
