The Basin (鉢 Hachi?) is a flowerpot that has the ability to stimulate the Tao cycle of plant ovules within it in order to resurrect the being that is deceased, thereby making it a tool that allows someone to transcend death which is viewed as being impossible.
Overview[]
Using the original plant ovule that is intact after the being's body has ceased functioning, the Basin can help to reincarnate the individual with their former personality and memories intact. On the other hand, if using a replica plant ovule of the deceased for the Basin, the revived being will retain their former personality but will not inherit their past memories of who they once were.[1]
The revival process also takes a considerable amount of time, as Gui Fa explained that it would take at least a millennium for the Tensens to be brought back (though this most likely only applied to the Tensens since this was how long they lived for). However, the Basin is liable to hasten the pace than one would expect and an increase in the revival process can be drawn out using the restorative effects of Sōsei.
History[]
Past[]
In case one of their own were to fall, Lord Tensen created the Basin as a way to bring them back from death. Should one of their members' plant ovules be slain, Lord Tensen would use a replica of the same type from their laboratory and place it within the Basin until the Tensen is fully reincarnated. Valuing it as being very important, Rien had the Basin placed within the Main Palace Annex for safe keeping.
Edo Period[]
After Hōrai turned into a battlefield, Rien ordered Gui Fa to quickly head towards the Main Palace Annex to protect the Basin. Upon arriving, Gui Fa found it hard to believe that the Basin was her main objective all along. During this time, Gui Fa went to collect the replica plant ovules within Rien's laboratory for the Basin to revive the deceased Tensens.
After the end of the Banko's rampage, the Basin was carried outside by Gui Fa where they ran into Yuzuriha and Mei, who revealed that they were now carrying the plant ovules of the deceased Tensens. Upon running into Aza Tōma, who was carrying his brother's plant ovule, Gui Fa offered to help revive him by using the Basin.
Epilogue[]
After several centuries passed, Gui Fa is warned by Mei, who was revived at an unknown point, that the Basin had managed to develop sprouting Ju Fa and Tao Fa.
Trivia[]
- In Chapter 56, Rien has a flashback to when the Tensens were born using five flowerpots with a similar design to the Basin. Another one can be seen in Rien's flashback in Chapter 124. Whether this indicates that there is more than one Basin is unclear.
- Though not shown, Gui Fa managed to acquire a plant ovule of Mei and Zhu Jin for the Basin before leaving Kotaku as Kaku confirmed in Jigokuraku Kaitai Shinsho that the six Tensens would be revived. As for Rien's plant ovule, Gui Fa believed that, for their creator's sake, it would be for the best not to revive her.
